What is NCHMCT JEE?

NCHMCT JEE (National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology Joint Entrance Examination) is a nationwide entrance examination conducted for candidates wishing to take admission in undergraduate programs provided by affiliated colleges for hotel management and catering technology.

Eligibility criteria for NCHMCT JEE

The candidates applying for NCHMCT JEE must have completed class 12 from any recognized board with English as a compulsory subject. The age limit for the aspirants is as follows. The upper age limit for the general and OBC category candidates is 25 years as of July 1, 2021, whereas the upper age limit for the SC/ST candidates is 28 years as of July 1, 2021 and it is compulsory for candidates to have English as one of their subjects.

Examination Pattern

The NCHMCT JEE is a 3 hour online examination with 200 questions for 800 marks. The examination has the following five sections.

  1. Numerical Ability and analytical Aptitude: This section includes 30 questions based on elementary mathematics each correct answer carrying 4 marks. There will be -1 mark for an incorrect answer.
  2. Reasoning And Logical Deduction: There will be 30 questions carrying 4 marks for each correct answer and -1 mark for an incorrect answer.
  3. General Knowledge & Current Affairs: This section also carries 30 questions with 4 marks for a correct answer and -1 mark for an incorrect answer.
  4. English Language: There are 60 questions in this part with 4 marks for the right answers and -1 mark for a wrong answer.
  5. Aptitude for Service Sector: This final section contains 50 questions with graded markings and a maximum of 4 marks for one right answer. Negative markings for wrong answers are same as in the previous sections.

Tips to prepare for NCHMCT JEE

1.      Planning is the key

Plan well for with a clear objective in mind. Create a routine timetable to cover each of the sections and set weekly targets to cover the portions under each section and try to meet the goals by sticking on to your plan. Remember, planning makes a man perfect!

2.      Be updated about the day to day general affairs

Dealing with the general knowledge and current affairs section is tricky. It can at the same time be your easiest part in the exam also the worst section where you can end loosing the plot if you are not well prepared. If you are sure about the answers, this is the section where you can get a lot of marks while spending

very little time on a question. So, to ensure maximum marks from this section, make it a habit that you read at least three or four newspapers daily. Reading newspapers also improves your vocabulary and comprehending skills which will come in good use while answering English language section which has got the maximum number of questions amongst all the parts.

3.      Practice the numerical ability & reasoning regularly

Brush up your basic school level mathematics systematically. Revise periodically. Exercise on the topics like LCM, HCF, simple ratios, Simple and compound interest, Areas of different shapes, time-distance-speed applications etc.

Practice logical reasoning questions on number series, blood relations, statement and assumptions etc.

4.      Read quality magazines related to the hotel management sector

Reading journals or magazines related to travel and tourism like Outlook Traveller, Go Now etc. would help in gaining knowledge to answer the questions in aptitude for service sector.

5.      Solve previous years question papers

This gives you a correct idea about the difficulty levels of each section, time management, frequently repeated questions over the years. Also attempting mock tests can improve your performance. Speed and accuracy is the mantra to crack it.

6.      Mind your health

Apart from keeping the above things in mind, remember that your health is equal important as the preparations. Do regular exercises, eat good and sleep tight. You know all work and no play makes jack dull. So don’t over train yourself. Get at least a good 6 hours of sleep each day.
